LIFE ON LAKE ERIE PHOTO CONTEST - ENTRIES DUE JULY 11!

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission's 2008 photo contest is now underway and open to amateur photographers taking snapshots in and around the Lake Erie watershed. This year's competition has no specific subject categories and can depict a person, plant, wildlife, activity or scene that captures the unique character of the region.

Deadline: July 11, 2008 (see form for details). 2008 photo contest entry form and rules are here!

The 2008 contest winners and photo gallery will be unveiled at the September Commission meeting. The gallery will remain on display at the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center through October.

WETLANDS ASSESSMENT REPORT
Increasing urbanization continues to degrade or eliminate wetlands. This study was undertaken to find out exactly where and how many of these natural storm water storage, water filtration and biohabitat features are left, and to evaluate their quality and ability to function.

The Ohio Environmental Education Fund (OEEF) has awarded CRCPO a $49,455 grant for its "Building Better Watersheds" initiative, which will include the publication of a comprehensive watershed owner's manual and educational materials, and the presentation of hands-on watershed planning workshops in Brandywine Creek, Mud Brook, Furnace Run and nearby tributary watersheds.

The George Gund Foundation has awarded CRCPO a grant of $70,000 over two years (2007-2008) to support outreach and communications initiatives.

The ODNR Office of Coastal Management has provided a NOAA Coastal Management Assistance Grant to the Cuyahoga River Community Planning Organization to support the development of a Balanced Growth Watershed Plan for Chippewa Creek. The Chippewa Creek Watershed Planning Partnership (CWCPP) has been formed with members appointed by the mayors of Brecksville, Broadview Heights and North Royalton, representing the cities and the public in these communities. The CCWPP had its first orientation meeting in November, 2006, and will meet again on January 24, 2007 at 1:30pm at Brecksville City Hall.

The Cuyahoga River Community Planning Organization (CRCPO)
is host to the Cuyahoga River Remedial Action Plan (RAP) and
the Cuyahoga American Heritage River Initiative.

We work with partners, stakeholders and communities
in five Northeast Ohio counties to restore and revitalize the
Cuyahoga River Watershed and Areas Of Concern, and
to improve water quality in the watershed and Lake Erie.
